All regular academic / technical and other staff of the Centre are entitled for the membership of the library. All valid members except those with consultation membership have privileges to borrow books, bound volumes of journals, journal issues and digital information materials. There are different member categories and their borrowing limits may vary. However materials in’Closed Reference’ and ‘Theses’ are to be consulted in the library and are not to be issued out.
Barcoded membership cards are distributed to all eligible members. The cards are non-transferable and if lost, should report the same immediately to the circulation desk.

The number of documents that can be borrowed by each category are
Acacemic staff : 4 books - 2 journals
Non-Academic Staff : 1 or 2 books - 1 or 2 journals
Students : 2 books – 2 journals
Items on loan can be reserved and members can borrow as and when they are returned. The intender will be informed in this respect by email/phone.
All borrowed items are subjected to recall at any point of time during the loan tenure. Notices in this respect may be served from the library as and when required.
If there is no reservation or recall, the borrowed items can be renewed over phone, email or in person. Except for the documents for overnight use, renewals are permitted to all the issued documents. Only three renewals are allowed for a member during the loan period for each document.
The borrowed items need to be returned in time. Charges will be levied for materials overdue. See the fine rules below:
- Loan period for books in the General collection will be 30 days.
- Reference books and back issues of journals (Current year) issued for overnight use should be returned on the next working day morning itself.
- The loan period for Bound volumes of journals will be 7 days.
- Overdue charges at the rate of Rs.5/- per book per day after the expiry of the loan period will be collected from the borrowers for all the above 3 categories of books.
If the book is not returned even after one year, the borrower is liable to pay the cost of the book and the same will be collected through the office.
Mutilation and loss:
Please cooperate to keep the collection in good physical condition for the benefit of prospective users. Readers who underline, mark, cut or otherwise mutilate a document will be assigned full costs involved for replacing the damaged item. Similarly, loss of reading materials may invite penal charges.
